Yume Sushi, at 2121 N. Westmoreland Street in East Falls Church, placed No. 8 in Northern Virginia Magazine's latest ranking of the best restaurants in the region. It is also the top Japanese restaurant in Arlington in the ARLnow Reader's Choice awards.
The restaurant opened in late 2018, about half a mile from the East Falls Church Metro station, with dishes from award-winning sushi chef Saran Kannasute.
The magazine singled out the Crazy Monkey Roll, with lavender-smoked salmon, cream cheese, mango tobiko, avocado and tempura bits, and the garlic butter miso scallop nigiri: thin seared scallop over rice with garlic butter miso, balsamic pearls, truffle wasabi, eel sauce and truffle oil. That scallop is the best first order.
For the most ambitious meal, look at the chef's picks. The surf and turf wraps lobster in Wagyu beef, topped with scallions and caviar. The Monkfish Tower pairs monkfish liver and Hokkaido uni with caviar, yuzu ice and a garlic ponzu. A moulard duck breast comes medium rare, finished with garlic butter miso and pickled vegetables.
