Twosome Place opened its first US location on October 17, 2026, at 404 King Street in Old Town Alexandria. The South Korean chain runs more than 1,750 stores in Korea and is built around coffee and cake. It was created by CJ Foodville and is now owned by the DC-based Carlyle Group. The chain picked Alexandria as a base it can expand from to the north and south.

## The cakes
The cakes are made in Korea and get their toppings in Alexandria. Most are sold by the slice or whole. The best first order is the strawberry chocolate cream cake, built from sponge, cream and crunchy chocolate pearls; the company sells more than 3 million of them a year and holds a trademark on the cake in Korea. The icebox cake, made with chocolate cookies, whipped cream and mascarpone, is one of the most requested cakes back home and eats lighter than it sounds.

A black sesame cake with chocolate sponge and chewy rice cakes is sold only at the Alexandria store. Other choices are mango cake, a pumpkin tart for the season, and injeolmi cake, which tastes of rice and roasted soybean powder. The company is considering adding bingsu, Korean shaved ice, in the summer months.

## Beyond cake
Pastries come from Pluma, the Union Market bakery. Savory options include a Bulgogi Bibimbowl and K-Toast, a thick brioche sandwich with bulgogi, fried egg, vegetables and chipotle mayo. The coffee is a single blend made for this store with Ceremony Coffee Roasters of Annapolis, served alongside a yuzu espresso tonic, iced apple cinnamon tea and the Dalgona Cream Top whipped coffee.

The room has cherry wood benches and traditional Korean light fixtures.
