Peter Chang, one of the chefs credited with bringing authentic Sichuan cooking to the United States, opened Peter Chang 3.0 at 6224 North Kings Highway in Alexandria on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

The restaurant calls itself the next step for the Peter Chang brand. Its menu is built around "Chinese tapas," smaller plates for tasting and sharing, and guests order by QR code at any point during the meal. The space has an open kitchen and serves halal meats.

Chang was born in China and first worked in the U.S. at the Chinese embassy in Washington. For years he moved from kitchen to kitchen with fans following him, then settled in the Washington area, where he now has seven restaurants in Virginia, one in D.C. and more in Maryland.

The best way to use the new format is to come with a group and order several small plates; it is the most flexible way yet to eat his cooking.
