Okinami, Japanese takeout spot, opens in Crystal City
Okinami, a Japanese takeout restaurant featuring sushi, ramen and poke, has opened in Crystal City on the ground floor of The Grace and Reva apartments.
Okinami has launched as a new takeout destination for Japanese food in Crystal City, located on the ground floor of The Grace and Reva apartments. The restaurant is owned by Yong Kang, a chef who has been active in the Northern Virginia area since 1987. The name Okinami means "offshore wave" and takes inspiration from the famous woodblock print "The Great Wave off Kanagawa."
The menu spans nigiri options with tuna, red snapper and eel, along with traditional sushi rolls in varieties such as shrimp tempura, yellowtail, crispy crab and spicy salmon. House-made rolls feature preparations like the Salmon Teriyaki Roll combining cooked salmon with avocado and spicy seasoning, the Tri Amigo Roll layering tuna, salmon, tilapia and smelt roe, and the Yami Yami, a shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy tuna, tempura flakes and Japanese sauce.
Beyond sushi, the kitchen turns out three ramen options, including pork and chicken miso ramen varieties. Poke bowls are available with tuna, salmon and shrimp bases.
Okinami operates Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. The restaurant shares its building with other nearby dining spots including Flight Wine Bar, Bar Chinois and Toastique.
